Ledger® Live: Login - Getting Started™

A concise, step-by-step, secure walkthrough to sign in to Ledger Live, set up accounts, and begin managing your crypto safely. Includes actionable tips, common troubleshooting steps, and official resources.

Quickstart — What is Ledger Live?

Overview

Ledger Live is the official desktop and mobile application provided by Ledger for managing cryptocurrency assets stored on Ledger hardware devices. It allows you to check balances, send and receive supported assets, install apps on your Ledger device, and update firmware.

Why secure login matters

Logging into Ledger Live correctly ensures you are interacting only with official infrastructure and that your hardware device remains the primary root of trust. Ledger Live itself never asks for your 24-word recovery phrase — this phrase must stay offline and private.

Before you start

  • Have your Ledger hardware wallet (e.g., Ledger Nano S Plus, Ledger Nano X) physically available.
  • Ensure you're using the official Ledger Live app (download links provided in Resources).
  • Confirm your device firmware is up to date and you know your device PIN.

Step-by-step: Login & First Run

1. Download & install Ledger Live

Download Ledger Live only from the official site. After installing, open the app and choose whether you are setting up a new device or already have a device. Never download Ledger Live from third-party mirrors.

2. Connect your Ledger device

Use the official USB cable or Bluetooth (if supported) to connect your Ledger. Unlock the device by entering your PIN on-device. Ledger Live will detect the device and guide you through pairing.

3. Confirm Device Authenticity

On-device prompt → Confirm

Ledger devices display a genuine prompt and require you to confirm actions on the device itself. This is a security check — always validate messages shown on the hardware screen before approving.

4. Sign in to Ledger Live (desktop)

  1. Open Ledger Live application.
  2. Choose "Get started" → "Use my device".
  3. Select your device model and follow on-screen instructions to pair and add accounts.

5. Mobile login

Ledger Live Mobile pairs with the hardware wallet over Bluetooth for Nano X or via QR flow for desktop pairing. Use the app’s guided pairing flow to connect — you will confirm pairing on your device.

Security: Best Practices

Never share your recovery phrase

Your 24-word recovery seed is the master key to your funds. Ledger support will never ask for it. Store it offline in a secure place or in a certified backup solution (avoid photos, cloud storage, or copying into text editors).

PIN & passphrase

Choose a strong PIN and optionally use a passphrase for an additional layer of security. Understand that a passphrase creates an entirely new wallet — losing it means losing access.

Firmware & software updates

Keep Ledger device firmware and Ledger Live up to date. Updates fix vulnerabilities and improve compatibility; install only updates prompted inside Ledger Live and confirmed on-device.

Troubleshooting common login issues

Device not recognized

  • Make sure cable is data-capable (not just charging).
  • Try a different USB port, enable USB debugging options as necessary, or restart the application.
  • On mobile, check Bluetooth pairing permissions and that the device screen is unlocked.

Pairing fails / app shows unknown device

Close Ledger Live, reconnect the device, and re-open. If issues persist, uninstall and reinstall Ledger Live from the official site and check that your operating system supports the app version.

Lost PIN or damaged device

If the device is lost or damaged, your recovery phrase (24 words) is the only way to restore funds to a new Ledger device or compatible wallet. Contact official Ledger support for guidance — they will never request your seed.

Getting the most from Ledger Live

Manage multiple accounts

Ledger Live supports many blockchains. Add accounts for each asset and use the portfolio view to monitor total value. Use the Manager inside Ledger Live to install or remove app packages on your hardware device.

Quick checklist (repeat before login)
  • Device physically available and unlocked.
  • Ledger Live is official and up-to-date.
  • PIN known; recovery phrase securely stored offline.
  • Only confirm transactions that match your intent on the device screen.
